Practical strategies from experienced players — suitable for all skill levels

Choose a table where your bankroll can sustain at least 20 buy-ins. With RM200, play at a RM10 buy-in table. Also check the table stats — look for tables with a high VPIP (loose players) for better opportunities if you're a solid player. At plea8, you can review table statistics before taking a seat.

The three most common mistakes: (1) Playing too many hands — be selective with your starting hands. (2) Not knowing when to fold — letting your ego run unchecked will drain your stack. (3) Tilt — making poor decisions out of frustration after a loss. Step away from the table when you feel tilt setting in.

Position is one of the most critical concepts in poker. Playing "in position" (acting after your opponent) gives you more information before making a decision. The BTN (Button) is the strongest position — take advantage of it by playing a wider range of hands. The SB and BB are the weakest positions, as you are first to act on every street after the flop.

In online poker, you can't see your opponents' faces, so focus on their betting patterns instead. Pay attention to: the sizing of their bets in different situations, how quickly they make decisions, and their raise/fold tendencies.
